During the 1960s, the Beatles were one of the most popular and admired British musical acts in the United States. They are usually credited with starting the British Invasion of America at the time, with the conquests being mostly based on pop and rock music. While the members disbanded a long time ago and only two of the Fab Four are still alive, their name and popularity continues to this day. Other than their music, the myths and legends surrounding the Beatles are also a part of how the British Invasion impacted American culture. 

For three years (1964 to 1967), the Beatles steadily dominated the top 20 musical charts within the United States. In that time, their chart hits totaled at least 25, with 18 reaching the No. 1 spot. Today, whenever anyone thinks of the British Invasion, the Beatles are one of the first things to come to mind. 

While many music critics were very skeptical of pop music and the British Invasion at the time it occurred, the overriding success of the Beatles soon hushed them all. With a historic arrival at New York City and their appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show, the Beatles gained superstar status very quickly. They also open doors for many other UK-based musical bands and solo artists.
