Mountains are features of great physical and cultural significance. These majestic natural phenomena have been the origins of myths, legends, literary classics, and many have formed the backdrop to some of humanity’s most important events. The world’s tallest mountains play a vital role in attracting travelers from around the world to their doors.

While Mount Everest stands alone as the tallest mountain in the world, there are other peaks that reach almost as high. K2 (also known as Mount Godwin Austen), which lies on the border between China and Pakistan, is roughly 250 meters shorter than Mount Everest. It was first ascended in 1953 by Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay.

The third highest peak in the world is Kangchenjunga, which straddles Nepal and India. This mountain was first scaled in 1955 by British mountaineers George Band and Joe Brown.

In this interesting infographic, you will find a list of the tallest mountains in the world that includes their names, height, and more.
