All of its principal members, Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr, were born in Liverpool, England. The band was widely regarded as the foremost and most influential act of the rock era. The enormous popularity of The Beatles first emerged as “Beatlemania” in the early 1960s. It is a term that defined the intense fan frenzy directed toward the British band. It was in 1963 when the phenomenon began and continued past the breakup of the band in 1970.

The band built their reputation over a three-year period from 1960 by playing in clubs in Liverpool and Hamburg. They grew in popularity in the United Kingdom after releasing their first hit, “Love Me Do,” in late 1962. They were also known as “the Fab Four” as Beatlemania grew in Britain in the following year.
